Silence in the Trees
Peering nervously through the fog
Straining his eyes against the misty dark
A lone vagabond wandered.
Forever traveling, he knew most roads but this dim path held discovery untold.
Into the arms of a dense forest he stumbled
In search of lodging for the night.
Much to his dismay instead a fright
Met his tired soul
Off the beaten path a shack
Offered shelter and rest on its face
Upon closer inspection a girl dwelled forever
Within its walls, abandoned by all but death
She greeted the man as only she could
A half-smile frozen on her lips
A silent warning of danger
And an echo of the silence in the trees.
